Twoonie: Intentional Design on a Compact Footprint
“There is no certainty, only adventure.” – Roberto Assagioli
In the realm of custom overland vehicles, true luxury is rarely defined by excess. Instead, it is found in the deliberate elimination of the superfluous, leaving behind only what is purposeful, durable, and flawlessly executed. Balancing agility with uncompromised capability presents a delicate design challenge, particularly within the confines of a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter VS30 144″ wheelbase. Twoonie achieves this quiet equilibrium.
Pushing the boundaries of what a short-wheelbase platform can gracefully sustain, this build pairs an advanced multi-voltage power system with rugged, trail-ready exterior defence. Featuring understated custom finishes, hidden utility, and a brilliant dual-zone layout, it is a masterclass in spatial efficiency—offering absolute confidence for those who prefer to travel well beyond the standard coordinates without drawing unnecessary attention.

To optimize this compact footprint, our team looked at the vehicle not as a static collection of separate parts, but as a cohesive, evolving ecosystem. At Nomad Vanz, our design philosophy is rooted in continuous iteration; we are constantly refining, testing, and improving our builds and products with every mile driven on the trail. Every square centimetre was scrutinized to ensure maximum utility without compromising the clean, architectural lines of the cabin. The result is an environment that feels open and uncluttered, yet hides an extraordinary depth of capability just beneath the surface. For the discerning traveller, it represents the ideal balance of mobility and comfort: a vehicle capable of navigating tight mountain switchbacks and urban environments with equal ease, while providing a refined sanctuary at the end of the day.
Central to this balance is the integration of several proprietary Nomad Vanz solutions. While these engineered components have long been utilized and perfected on our bespoke custom builds, they represent an ongoing evolution. Before any product transitions from our workshop to our wider public offering, it must withstand exhaustive field-testing protocols across varied Canadian terrain—from the damp, unforgiving coastlines of the Pacific Northwest to punishing interior mountain trails. Having achieved our strict seal of approval for longevity and ease of use, these new additions will soon make their debut on our online boutique, allowing owners to bring our signature build standards to their own vehicles.
Nomad Vanz Canopy Rack — Coming Soon to the Online Shop
A refined custom vehicle requires a structural foundation that complements, rather than disrupts, the natural aerodynamics of the chassis. The Nomad Vanz Canopy Rack crowns Twoonie, providing a low-profile, high-utility roof platform engineered specifically to align with the proportions of the 144" wheelbase. Rather than relying on bulky, generic rack systems that create excessive wind noise and drag, this bespoke aluminum design hugs the roofline precisely.
It acts as an understated yet incredibly robust hosting structure for high-efficiency solar arrays, auxiliary recovery gear, and specialized overland equipment. By distributing weight evenly across the factory roof tracks, it preserves the vehicle's handling characteristics while maximizing overhead storage. It is an investment in structural longevity, designed to endure years of exposure to the elements without losing its clean, architectural finish.

Nomad Vanz Straight Up! Side Ladder — Coming Soon to the Online Shop
Accessing the overhead platform is executed with quiet efficiency via the Nomad Vanz Straight Up! side ladder. In keeping with our philosophy of visual restraint, this component avoids unnecessary width or protruding angles that could catch on dense trailside brush. Instead, it mounts cleanly and tightly to the van’s exterior panelling, maintaining a slim, vertical profile that almost disappears into the silhouette of the Sprinter.

Crafted from lightweight, marine-grade alloy and finished with a durable, textured powder coat, the ladder offers secure, ergonomic footing in all weather conditions—whether navigating morning frost or coastal rain. Its minimalist aesthetic ensures that managing gear or inspecting your solar panels remains a seamless, effortless task at basecamp, free from the rattling or flex often associated with mass-market alternatives.
Nomad Vanz Bug Out! Screen — Coming Soon to the Online Shop
True luxury on the road relies on an uninterrupted, sensory connection to the surrounding environment. Born from our extensive personal camping experience, the Nomad Vanz Bug Out! screen addresses a common industry frustration with traditional options. Following more than three years of intensive research and development, we iterated a solution centered around a premium, micro-fine mesh weave that provides an impenetrable barrier against insects while ensuring optimal airflow and completely unobstructed views of the landscape.

Unlike standard screens that feel cumbersome or intrusive, hanging down bulkily over the sliding door area even when you want an open threshold, we engineered the Bug Out! screen with the ability to zip out the mesh entirely. This allows it to be completely stowed away when not needed, preserving the clean look of the entryways. Driven by a clean, minimalist aesthetic, you will find no visible hardware or cheap fasteners; we sourced the highest tier of premium magnets and hid them entirely within the structure to maintain the Sprinter's original interior look. The design prioritises absolute ease of entry and exit via a sophisticated, self-closing magnetic pass-through—a deliberate, quiet addition that significantly elevates the indoor-outdoor living experience during extended remote stays.
Nomad Vanz Origami Shower Pan — Coming Soon to the Online Shop
Spatial efficiency is paramount when designing a mid-wheelbase interior, as traditional, fixed wet baths permanently consume a massive portion of the living space. When engineering the Nomad Vanz Origami Shower Pan, our design team spent over three years in R&D, looking far beyond the automotive world for inspiration. We studied the highly resilient materials utilized within the industrial chemical sector for safe fluid containment, alongside the heavy-duty fabric technologies trusted by the maritime industry to construct ocean-faring rafts. The resulting stowable, foldable design addresses the necessity of an onboard hot shower without permanently compromising the cabin's open layout.

Constructed from these premium, highly durable, chemical-resistant materials that prevent moisture retention and odour buildup, the Origami system deploys in mere moments to provide a fully functional, self-contained drainage basin, and then effortlessly folds down to be easily stowed out of sight. By keeping the visual horizon of the interior clean and unobstructed during the day, Twoonie feels vastly more spacious than its compact exterior dimensions suggest, offering hotel-tier utility only when the moment demands it.
Nomad Vanz Rear Door Storage Pockets — Available Now
To eliminate wasted space entirely, Twoonie utilizes the Nomad Vanz Rear Door Storage Pocket System. This solution cleverly converts the recessed factory plastic panels of the Sprinter's rear doors into substantial, highly organized utility zones. Rather than leaving this dead space unused, our system inserts heavy-duty, structured pockets that are ideal for stowing recovery gear, tools, or travel essentials.

Crafted from ultra-durable, weather-resistant textiles and secured with marine-grade stainless steel fasteners, these pockets are built to handle heavy use without sagging or tearing. A particularly thoughtful detail is their modularity: the individual pockets can be detached effortlessly from the door frames, doubling as premium independent luggage for town runs or gear transport. It is a perfect example of dual-purpose design that maximizes efficiency on long journeys.
